Your garage door opener contains an internal memory that remembers all programmed keyless entry pads and remote controls. On occasion, you may want to erase the memory so all old codes get removed. Many homeowners clear their garage door opener memory when they move into a new home or if a previous tenant moves out. You may also want to erase the memory of your garage door opener if you lose one or more of the remote opening devices and are worried about unauthorized access to your garage.
Resetting your garage door opener remotes and clearing the memory is easy with the LiftMaster® series of garage openers. Simply follow these easy steps:
- Step 1: Prepare a ladder to safely access your LiftMaster opener
- Step 2: Locate the ‘Learn’ button on the rear or side of your opener
- Step 3: Press and hold the ‘Learn’ button for approximately 6 seconds
- Step 4: Ensure that the ‘Learn’ LED goes out
- Step 5: All previously active remotes will no longer function
- Step 6: You can now reprogram your remote controls
It only takes a moment to reset a garage door opener. You can also disable an opener if you no longer want your door accessible for remote opening. You can find these instructions in your LiftMaster garage door opener owner’s manual as well as many other useful features and functions, so take the time to read it through.
